![]() Kira becomes and absolute Mary Sue that is incapable of ever being wrong, and Shin never developed as a character, being instead trapped in a whiny "i hate the world" mentality, despite several great opportunities to grow and evolve. Lets look at the main character's Kira and Shin. The characters are also lackluster for the most part. Furthermore, instead of giving the three various factions interesting and distinct mobile suite designs, they just decided to give every faction Gundams. In the second show, Destiny, instead of coming up with new suits inspired by classic Zeon designs (like in SEED) they instead just reuse the Zaku and Gouf. But instead of focusing on these strengths they attempted to do a subpar retelling of the original Mobile Suit Gundam and Mobile Suit Gundam: Zeta. The core concept of the Cosmic Era is absolutely great genetic modification, racism, humanity on the cusp of the next great evolution but being held back by hatred and bigotry, ect. I would argue that Gundam SEED's greatest sin was wasted potential. ![]() SEED is popular in Japan among more casual audiences, and holds some nostalgic value. It was just a poorly handled show that soured a lot of people on the Cosmic Era and brought it to an end when it was supposed to be the new UC.Īlso, if it's this unpopular, why does Gundam Reborn's Story Mode focus entirely on UC and Seed, shoving all other universes to Ultimate Mode? Character development from the first series was discarded, others acted out of character, they introduce a new cast for us to follow only to drop them at the last minute in favor of the SEED cast, the actions of Kira and Lacus are ones not just the fandom but also the guys who make crossover games want to call out (Dynasty Warriors Gundam 2, for instance, calls Kira's way of doing things out.a lot.), Kira's strength feels exaggerated compared to his performance in SEED. ![]() What many people considered the weaknesses of SEED were made worse in Destiny. It feels like the show took the easy way out.ĭestiny has it's own problems, with little prep and poor behind the scenes management dragging the production down. When the Athrun/Kira rivalry was one of the driving forces of the show and the relationship between Kira and Flay made him a more interesting character, when those are just quickly wrapped up and we're expected to take a show with a villain like Azreal seriously, it's just unsatisfying. There are few wars between good and evil: most are between one good and another good.Īnd when the first, oh, thirty-some episodes are great when dealing with Kira's personal conflicts. Me and a lot of other Gundam fans prefer the show to have shades of gray, moral ambiguity, all that kind of stuff that really speaks about the nature of war. Personally, SEED became more cartoonish during it's final leg with the war devolving into good guys vs. What exactly makes the series so bad? Or is it just that it's "bad" in comparison to other Gundam shows? Destiny is the one that's generally looked upon as one of the worst, if not the worst. SEED is generally considered good but not great. You may have to select a menu option or click a button. One thing I've found to be almost unanimously true is that Seed (and Destiny) are clearly considered far and away the worst Gundam series.
